You Know You're A Scooter If...

You play with people's feet

You jump out from corners, paws in the air, scaring the living daylights out of them.

You sit in windows

You eat mice

Your favorite word is BUGGY

You get really wide eyes when mummy says, "Scooty, get the buggy!"

You meow when you can hear mummy talking downstairs

You are not graceful...at all

You followed mummy and daddy around the house for weeks when you were a kitten

You like to pounce on Leila when she is least expecting it

You can't pee sitting down, you stand up...so mummy had to get a covered litter box...and sometimes you miss and it shoots in the crack between the door...and it makes mummy sad

You are lucky you're cute ;)

You're the best snuggler

You put your little kitty nose on mummy's nice camera lens when she's trying to take a handsome picture of you

You accidentally roll off the bed sometimes and mummy tries not to laugh but it's so funny she can't help it

To put it nicely...there are smarter cats...MANY smarter cats.

You have finally (knock on wood) stopped scratching the furniture.

You eat any meat product or treat mummy puts in front of you.

You like to chew on mummy's Alex & Ani bracelets

From Bowl to Bottle UPDATE

Helloooooo!
Well I know it's been a little longer than I expected BUT the transition to the bottle WORKED!

I tried showing them the bottle and rolling the metal ball so water would drip...they didn't dig it.

I'd read about putting tuna water in the bottle so they could smell it and actually want to get the water out. That's what did it! I blended a can of tuna and some cold water to make a Kitty Tuna Shake (I'm lucky I didn't lose my lunch).

They were so excited about their special liquid treat that they went to town! With close supervision the rest of the night, I changed the nasty...I mean delicious...Tuna Shake to plain water, afraid they would lose interest. I am happy to report that they can now drink plain water from the bottle! Their feeding space is now much cleaner and my rug is worlds drier :)

Cat Bearding

I have discovered the next most awesome thing in the Internet World of Cats: Cat Bearding

I don't even remember how I saw it...possibly on Instagram...but I am obsessed.

You put your kitty under your face and coax him to lift his chin up...the result is magnificent:

Come on, is that not the most awesome thing you've ever seen?! It's me...with a cat...that looks like I have a beard...made out of said cat! Ahh! I love it.

If you can't tell, that's little Scooter with me...I wouldn't dare try it with Leila, she'd probably rip me to shreds.

Also, you can tell I have terrible eye sight.

Also, my right eye looks like a black hole. I do not look this way in real life.

Although, I wish I had a Cat Beard in real life.

Happy Cat Bearding!

From Bowl to Bottle

I'll say it until I'm blue in the face, Scooter is my boy. I love both of my cats so much, but Scooty and I definitely have a stronger bond than I have with Leila. This being said, Scooter can drive me absolutely batty.

Something that I have reached the limit for is the water situation. He loves to dip his furry little paws in the bowl and splash the water around. I know this is completely normal, but I just feel like he does it more than is actually normal.

Today I was thinking about ways I could lessen the amount of mess my little bundle of joy makes every time he needs a sip of hydration. I can't even tell you how I thought of it, but I wondered, "Could a water bottle work?"

I Googled it and though I didn't find much info, what I found was contradictory. A veterinarian said that cats would never take to it so figure something else out, yet other pet owners say that their own cats drink from water bottles!

I've decided that I have nothing to lose so here is my new setup:

I know you're probably thinking "YOU KEEP TWO CATS IN A CAGE?!" Well, the answer is, no, I don't. This is my dog, Roxie's, old crate that we never use because she is a princess and sleeps on my mom's bed. I dug it out from the attic to create an eating space because I couldn't figure out how to set up the water bottle without it! I kind of like it, the plastic bottom will keep the rug from getting ruined. I just wish I could take the door off and not have to deal with it.

Anyway, I set up the bottle and I introduced it to each of the kitties. Neither of them understood it. I did close them in there (one at a time) to see if they would notice it on their own, but that didn't work either.

A few minutes ago, Scooter went in and sniffed it by himself which made me more optimistic! I did just  read to rub some tuna on the spout to get them to lick it. I certainly have to try this because tuna is Scooter and Leila's favorite!

I will post their (hopefully) progression with the new Hydration Station!

Happy Purring!

Meet My Babies!

Hello there! I hope everyone is having a great start to their summer, I know I am! School is almost over and tomorrow I'll be in the dunk tank at our Field Day, yikes!

If you know me, you know that I adore my two cats. They are so precious to me and I have NO SHAME in being dubbed a Crazy Cat Lady.

Here is my little Scooter, I got him in May of 2011 when he was three months old at the MSPCA. I took him out of his cage, snuggled him to me, and it was love at first sight. He's been Mama's Boy ever since!!

That face!

This little one is Leila. Tom (my boyfriend) and I went to PetSmart JUST to get litter one Saturday in September 2011. As we walked in, there was a table full of kittens with signs saying, "PET ADOPTION WEEKEND!"

We'd been talking about getting a little buddy for Scooter to play with while we were at work. I felt bad because he was all alone all day and he had so much energy when we got home; energy that we were not always able to match. Anyway, I looked at Tom with the biggest "Pretty Please" face I could muster and he sighed, "Fiiiine," with a grin.

I looked at the kittens on the table and they were all so cute, but I hadn't found The One. We then ventured to the side of the store where they always have felines available for adoption through a local shelter. Two tiny black kittens caught my eye. One was so sweet, walking around, playing here and there...when the other one fell from the top of the 10 foot high cages, pranced and climbed back up, and "jumped" off again. Yep. That was our girl!

My "Little Kitten"
We took her home and Scooter was less than thrilled. I was so scared he would sit on her and she'd never walk again, or worse! I kept her in the bathroom for a couple days with litter and food and supervised their meetings.

In no time, they were best buddies. I remember thinking, "They'll hate each other forever!" That couldn't have been more opposite. They are two peas in a pod and I can't imagine one without the other.

I never meant to start a blog about Scooter and Leila. I had decided to transition them from a water bowl to a water bottle so I thought I would blog about that on my Peace. Love. Harry Potter. blog, but it turns out, I had too much to say! Thus was born, A Crazy Cat Lady and Her Crazy Cats.

I'm not sure if I will keep this up forever, but these two do some pretty funny stuff, so who knows? Maybe I'll have this blog for a while!

Stay tuned!

Hello, My Name is Craz--I mean--Christie

Hello folks! Welcome to my newest blog, all about my life with my kitties.

I just wanted to do a small post to tell a bit about myself.

  • In 2011, I became a first-time cat mommy (I'm not their owner, I'm the mama!)
  • I am an Assistant Teacher on my beloved Cape Cod.
  • I have my Elementary Ed license, and I'm really hoping to land my own classroom soon!
  • I DO NOT claim to be an expert. This blog is simply a log of my daily life with my cats, funny things they do, wacky things I might try...etc.
  • I LOVE animals. One of my dreams is to have my own LEGAL AND SANITARY pet shelter in my backyard where I can foster animals until they find their forever homes. That won't happen for a long time though.

Can't think of anything else right now. Let me know if I've left anything out!
